I am going to the University of Hyderabad in the capitol city of Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad is located in southeastern India near the Musi river and the Deccan Plateau. There are nearly 8 million people in the metropolitan area (47, 900 people/ sq. mile). The population of Hyd has grown 87% in ten years. Recent urbanization and a growing global economy has contributed to the increase. Archaeological digs have uncovered Iron Age architecture dating back to as early as 500 BCE. (This place is OLD)
I will be in Hyderabad during the driest time of the year, It will also be between 50 and 80 degrees (F) during the time that I am there. Everyday, the city produces 4,500 tons of solid waste. Every year, 1,700-3,000 people die from atmospheric particulate matter. 55% of the population is Hindi, 42% Muslim, 2% Christian, 1% other. Hyderabad is home to the Telugu film industry, it is also considered "India's Genome Valley" - and India's pharmaceutical industry center.
